WKSK-FM 101.9 History
The station that's now WKSK dates back to November 23rd, 1956, when it signed on as WJWS-FM, 105.5 FM, as the sister station of South Hill's WJWS, 1370 AM. By the 1980s, WJWS-FM had become WSHV. Old Belt Broadcasting owned the stations from at least the 1980s until Joyner Broadcasting bought them in 2001. In the mid-1990s, WSHV swapped frequencies with Lawrenceville's WHFD for a stronger 15,000-watt signal at 98.9 FM. The station was then known as "98-9 The Eagle". In the early 2000's, the station changed frequencies again, this time to 101.9 FM with reduced power. On August 30th, 2001, WSHV became WSHV-FM, as sister station WJWS was about to become WSHV. A few days later on a very infamous date, September 11th, 2001, WSHV-FM became WKSK-FM to reflect the handle "Kiss Country". According to FCC records, the station was briefly known as WRWV from August 19th, 2005 until September 1st, 2005, when they again became WKSK-FM. Lakes Media bought out Joyner Radio in 2005. Throughout all the changes, the station has maintained a country format. In July 2009, WKSK began simulcasting sister country station WLUS 98.3 in Clarksville.
