WPAW-FM 93.1 History

Today's WPAW was originally WAIR-FM, the FM sister station of Winston-Salem legendary top 40 WAIR, 1340 AM. The station was also formerly known as "Fresh Air 93", Southern gospel WGPL and, by 1973, WSEZ before being expanded to cover the whole market. The station became WMQX-FM in 1987 with an adult contemporary format as "93 Mix". The station switched to an oldies format in 1989. At 9 a.m. on the morning of October 3rd, 2006, the oldies format was dropped, and the stunting began. At noon the next day, "93.1 The Wolf" began playing country hits. In November, the new call letters WPAW followed.
