WYBJ signed on in October of 2007 as WPRZ-FM simulcasting WZRI, 89.3 FM, in Spring Lake. Originally licensed to the Cumberland County cmmunity of Wade, WPRZ-FM's license was changed to Newton Grove, in nearby Sampson County before its sign-on. The station aired California-based Educational Media Foundation's Christian alternative "Air 1" format while known as WPRZ-FM. In 2008, the station was sold to Fundamental Broadcasting Network of Newport, NC, which changed the call letters to WYBJ and the format to a simulcast of the network's sacred Christian programming. WYBJ is best heard in Johnston and Harnett Counties as well as far southeastern Wake County.
