WQMG-FM 97.1 History

WQMG signed on July 8th, 1962, a few years after the demise of WFMY-FM at first-adjacent 97.3 on the dial. WQMG began life playing easy listening music. By the early 1970s, the music was mostly popular and jazz, with some classical intermixed. Many years later, WQMG became known as Greensboro's home for rap as "Power 97". WQMG moved towards an urban adult format when they along with cross-town competitor WJMH "102 Jamz" were bought by Entercom in the early 21st century.
