WYFL-FM 92.5 History

The former WHNC-FM signed on June 5th, 1948, as the sister station of Henderson's WHNC 890 AM. WHNC-FM operated with 9,000 watts and was also briefly known as WXNC. In the early 1980s, the then-Chesapeake, VA-based Bible Broadcasting Network, in search of a station that would cover the Triangle area, bought the small FM station for $330,000. On October 3, 1981, the station was rechristened as WYFL, and soon upgraded to 100,000 watts from a 500-foot antenna in the Franklin County community of Alert, giving them a broader reach. In 1986, BBN won approval for an antenna height increase to 1,000 feet, greatly improving the WYFL signal in Raleigh, Durham and eastern parts of the state. WYFL is also heard in Goldsboro, Kinston, Greenville and Fuquay-Varina via translators.
