The Face Inside aftermath
by T.G.
Well, it’s almost been a month since we released The Face Inside. So far, all of the reviews have been good. That is such great news and a relief to me, since something that has been worked on for two years should at least be ranked up there with “not bad.” I must have gone over each scene ten times or more to tweak them, change them, improve them. I’d read and think “Well, this would be funnier if Jen said this…” or “The story would make more sense if Jace did this…” I hope everyone enjoyed it, and I hope it’s the type of story that can be enjoyed time and again. It’s long, but I think it flows so well that it doesn’t SEEM that long. One of the reasons it took so long to write, at least for me, was because I wanted to be so precise, so dedicated to living up to all of the characters’ established personalities, and to all of their alter-egos’ expectations. Successful or not, I tried my best.
The Face Inside was a story with a lot of firsts. First time Zarin and Xanthis are prominent in a story, first time Jace admits his treachery (in terms of timeline what with SS’s chaotic release of stories out of sequence), first time Reno’s origins are explored. And The Face Inside is also somewhat of a launching point. In my half of the story (well, in my part, since it’s a lot more than half in mathematical terms) I set up several arcs, some of which won’t come to a head until several stories later. There are the long-lasting repercussions from Reno’s stay with Zarin to remember, too. To put it shortly, TFI raised as many questions as it answered. And that’s not a bad thing…that’s a GOOD thing.
In addition, I'm going through TFI looking for Easter eggs—inside jokes, hidden references, etc. The story is chock full of them and I thought it might be cool to have them listed. But that is a long-term project. The Face Inside, which I had regretfully deemed to be my last Sith Squadron story as I am a published freelance journalist now and I need to do some work that pays, actually spawned yet another story to be written by yours truly. It’s called Parting With Grace, and revolves mainly around Rick. Wait, before you close this page, let me explain! It's going to be a fun, engaging story, and will feature another first: scenes from Xanthis’ point of view. Mike, too, is working on his next story, as well. Not only that, but he has at least two other WIPs (that’s work-in-progress) that should both be coming out some time in the next few years.
Yes, the epic known as Sith Squadron is looking toward a very bright future, indeed. You keep reading, we’ll keep writing.
