He was in fact arrested on Nov. 26, along with about 160 Arab youths involved in rioting.

He promptly declared that the arrests sent the wrong message to the Muslim community. "Some people in this organization are, shall we say, less patient than I am. So if they eliminate me, what will you have?"

From where we sit, that's a thinly veiled threat of further, more violent troubles.

In the meantime, I'm SURE that the 160 arrested youths were just fine, upstanding young men who were victimized by vengeful, racist authorities (SARCASM OFF).

Wonder what percentage of Belgium's murders, rapes, robberies, burglary, other street crime, etc., (and sure that, just as in neighboring France, the numbers are rising sharply) are attributable to these arrogant newcomers who want all of the lush benefits of Belgium's cradle-to-grave socialist welfare state -- but who insist on behaving as if they are still swaggering tribal chieftains back home in Lebanon or wherever?

This man and his movement no doubt have their guilt-ridden defenders and apologists among the native Belgian academic, media and political establishment.

A supposed government "crackdown" triggered by the November riots will only last till the next election.

Look at what is going on in France, where gangs of young Arab and North African thugs roam even the Champs d'Elyse with impunity.

Look at what's happening in Scandinavia -- in Norway, non-Norwegiens, mostly Muslims, commit 65% of the rapes and bleeding-heart academics say that the victims are at fault because the rapists "aren't used to seeing women dressed provocatively in their homelands"; the women victims are apparently guilty of cultural insensitivity

Look at the situation in Australia, where a gang of young Lebanese immigrant thugs raped a number of local girls over a period of months and called them "white Aussie sluts" -- and showed no remorse when they were sentenced to long jail terms.

Renewed Call to Murder Author
TEHRAN 2/15/03 - Iran has renewed the call to kill author Salman Rushdie, who was condemned to death 14 years ago for allegedly insulting Islam in a prize-winning novel.

Iran said in a statement that the fatwa - or Islamic edict - issued by the late leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, was 'irrevocable.'

The fatwa was issued against Rushdie Feb. 14, 1989, ordering Muslims to kill the novelist because he had allegedly insulted Islam in his novel.

The Iranian government declared it could not rescind the edict as, under Islamic law, that could be done only by the person who issued it. Khomeini died in June 1989.

Iran news quoted it as 'irrevocable and nothing can change it.'

The hard-line Jomhuri Islami ran a 16-page supplement Saturday with a front-page cartoon of a dead Rushdie being carried in a coffin draped with flags of the United States, Britain and Israel, countries seen by hard-liners as the main supporters of Rushdie's novel.

Hassan Saneii, head of the Khordad foundation that has placed a $2.8 million bounty on Rushdie's head, says the foundation will now pay $3 million to anyone who kills Rushdie.

Islamic Leader Calls for Death of Fashion Writer

LAGOS, Nigeria - The deputy governor of a largely Islamic state in northern Nigeria has called on Muslims to kill Isioma Daniel, a female fashion writer of a newspaper article about the Miss World beauty pageant, that sparked deadly religious riots.

'Just like the blasphemous 1998 Indian writer Salman Rushdie, the blood of writer Daniel can be shed,' Zamfara Deputy Governor Mahamoud Shinkafi told a gathering of Muslim groups in the state capital, Gusau, on Monday.

Islam's holy book 'states that whoever accuses or insults any prophet of Allah ... should be killed,' Dangaladima said. 'If she (Daniel) is Muslim, she has no option except for her to die. But if she is a non-Muslim, the only way out for her is to convert to Islam.'

Daniel, a Lagos-based fashion writer with ThisDay, went into hiding after being interrogated by Zamfara's police last week in connection with the article, which suggested Islam's founding prophet Muhammed would have approved of Miss World and might have wanted to marry one of the contestants.

Zamfara was the first of 12 states to adopt Islamic law, after Nigerian military rule gave way to elected Islamic government in 1999. Religious clashes since then have killed thousands across the country.

The latest rioting began last Wednesday when Muslims burned down a ThisDay office in the northern city of Kaduna. More than 200 people were killed in the city and rioting also briefly spread to the capital, Abuja.

The violence caused Miss World organizers to abandon plans to hold the pageant in Nigeria and evacuate more than 80 participants to London, where the show will go ahead Dec. 7.

PAKISTAN - Police detained four people, including a Muslim cleric who urged his followers to kill Christians, after a Christmas Day grenade attack on a Pakistani church that killed three young girls and wounded 13 other people. Mostly women and children and all Pakistanis, were attending the Christmas Day service.

The cleric, who uses only one name, Afzar, was being detained because of hateful remarks toward Christians made three days earlier in a sermon at a mosque in the district of Daska, where Chianwala is located, police said.

Afzar told people "you should attack Christians and not even have food until you have seen their dead bodies," police told AP by telephone.

Two assailants covered in burqas, the all-encompassing garment worn by women in some Islamic countries, tossed a grenade into the middle of worshippers at a Christmas Day service Wednesday.

Interior Ministry spokesman, Iftikhar Ahmad, told the AP in Islamabad, that the three dead were young girls.

Security had been increased in churches ahead of Christmas celebrations around this mostly Islamic nation, which has seen a string of attacks targeting Christians this year.

Male Islamic Muslims in neighboring Afghanistan have worn burqas to hide their identities in at least one recent attack there.
