Originally a short story by chilling horror writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft, Re-Animator is a cult classic movie adaptation centered around Daniel Cain (Bruce Abbott) a third year medical student who's entire life is turned upside down in a matter of weeks when a young scientist named Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) takes up residency with him. Dan realizes from the get go that West might be a little off, but dismisses it to his girlfriend (Barbara Crampton) as being the typical behavior of someone considered a genius. That is until his beloved cat is found dead in West's room. It's all down hill from there. That night Dan wakes up to a terrible screaming in the basement. It's his cat. And he's alive.

Dan can't believe what he's seeing, but West provides a few demonstration and easily convinces him he's discovered a solution that can bring the dead back to life. A few mishaps around school (that includes his girlfriend's father being brutally murdered), and a rival scientist (David Gale), gets word of West's discovery and tries to steal it from himself. Things don't go all too well there either, and the climax results in an all out bloody massacre at their university.

Re-Animator is followed by Bride of Re-Animator where West and Cain go on more re-animating dead life adventures, which is then is followed by Beyond Re-Animator which catches up on West many years later incarcerated in prison for his "crimes against humanity". I could be more detailed here, but really, if you haven't seen it, rent it.
