MILITIA ORDER NO.1

Wheras Her Britannic Majesty's Government
with feelings of indignation, condemns  the gross insult committed
upon the British flag,

 
"That flag that braved a Thousand years
The Battle and the Breeze."

By the recent capture of Mason and Slidell, from a British steamer upon the high  seas, by Commodore Wilkes of the United States navy:

And Wheras, reparation, and immediate surrender of said persons have been, or no doubt will be made, by the British Government, and fears are entertained that the United States Government will not comply with the said demand, in the event of which war will no doubt ensue :

These are therefore to request that, in order to prepare for the coming event, the OFFICERS and NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS of the 2nd Battalion of Leeds Militia will meet at the village of
 

FARMERSVILLE, FRIDAY, DEC. 27,


Instant at 12 o'clock, noon, for the purpose of making preliminary arrangements for DRILL and other Militia duty. Any Officer belonging to the said Battalion who does not feel inclined to Fall In and join freely his brother Officers in said Drill, will please send his resignation at once in order that another may be appointed in his place; or any Officer who from inability is unable any longer to perform Militia duty can be relieved by signifying his name to the Commanding Officer. Colonel McCrae with his Officers of the FIGHTING 5th, has kindly consented to join with the GALLANT 2nd in this DRILL.
