Although I think that the best way to win is to come up with your own strategy, I know what it's like to be a begginner and that I once needed help to.

Strategy #1: Fast knockout
This strategy works with a Haymaker deck. Have fast and hard hitters in your deck such as Electabuzz and Hitmonchan. This works very well against evolution decks (decks that require evolving to hit hard.) Because there is now some stupid rule that limits how many trainers you can include in a deck, these strategies may not work. Most decks that have come to be called Haymakers use a lot of trainers to totally screw up the other guy whenever he thinks he's doing so good. Use this strategy/deck to cause confusion and mayhem for your opponent, for these decks are the ultimate fighting machine.

Strategy #2: Evolution solution
This strategy is to be used with evolution decks (hence the name.) Have the little guys that will evolve into the biggest hitters of the game. Evolution decks can be taken down by Haymakers quickly, so be sure to throw in a potion or so to heal when necessary. Squirtle to Blastoise with a Pokémon Breeder is one of the best combos, and be sure to add plenty of Magikarp and the water-snake-evolution-of-death (that's Gyarados.) You might want to add some other evolution like the Squirtle line (don't choose the Pidgey line, it works terribly) in case you run into one of those dreaded Electabuzz that will whipe out your water Pokémon.
