Okays .. so's maybe the individuals here are better known as 'themselves' rather than the band itself .. but the funk, soul, rock and groove that BRAD delivers is indeed .. Stone Gossard's sideproject along with two mates in Shawn Smith and Regan Hagar [who are both from SATCHEL] and Jeremy Toback [a solo artist]. Apparently these guys initially called themselves "Shame" .. but some bloke [by the name of Brad Wilson] held a copyright over the name .. and so's from there, it was to be BRAD .. something about Wilson wanting to sell the name at some hefty price so's instead of forking up .. the guys got cheeky and named themselves after Wilson¡ *G* and so .. these guys formed in 1992
You should check out how these guys came about¡ but i guess you get that, cuz during that time in the Seattle scene, everyone knew everyone and played for each other, with some eventually getting together¡ Hagar's first band was called MALFUNKSHUN .. these guys shared rehersal space with GREEN RIVER [in which Stone and Jeff were members¡]. A littl' later Stone, Jeff and Andrew Wood [also a member from MALFUNKSHUN] got together and formed MOTHER LOVE BONE. Even though they were in different bands .. hey that didn't stop em from gettin' together cause that's just what the three of em .. along with Hagar .. did¡ With the unfortunate death of Wood .. Gossard and Ament went on to form PEARL JAM *G* and meanwHiles Hagar met Shawn Smith .. those two got together to get a band together and the arrival of SATCHEL came onto the scene. SATCHEL played 'round locally and Gossard use to jam with them when he could. Jeremy Toback came onto the scene when Gossard invited him up to Seattle from LA .. and the rest they say .. is history¿ or whatever the go .. it was to be, the birth of BRAD¡ and tHey deFinaTeLy gRoove =)

I had no idea .. and didn't even think that any of the guys from Pearl Jam would have sideprojects on the side .. but I think I first came across BRAD when I was havin' a lookie in the cd stores [surprise .. surprise haHA =þ] and fell upon the album "Interiors" .. it had one of those stickers [those things are soo annoyin'¡ *G*] on it sayin' who the band was .. and the name Stone Gossard kinda caught my eye =) .. and so's I became curious and got me the album¡ *L*.
I didn't really know what to expect here .. I hadn't heard of the band SATCHEL or any of their material but given Gossard's background I was pleasantly surprised when I first heard "Interiors" .. lurv tHeir sound and the focus is on BRAD's vocalist in Shawn Smith .. there's just somethin' 'bout that voice of his¡ it's haunting, moving, sweet at times and jusT .. unique¡ =) .. and I only hope that further down the track the guys find the time to regroup and do a third¡ =)
Hey they actually came to Perth in support to Ben Harper a few years ago .. I think it was in '97¿ but I was up in the sticks .. but I reckon it would've been swEEt to see em perform live *s*
