This page will feature articles related to MECCG.
It could be a web site, a review of a player guide,
past meccg products etc...
Ever since Iron Crown Enterprise
(ICE) ceased producing and selling MECCG and other Middle Earth related
products in the latter part of 1999, webpages focusing on MECCG have slowed
down or ceased to exist. On-line card shops who used to sell boxes, boosters
and singles have trickled down as well. Even some veteran players who were
there from the beginning have moved on to other CCGs. But there are still
sites on the web dedicated to MECCG. Some are still updated frequently
while others offer timeless information about the game that they are still
found useful even after years have passed. Think of them as ruins and lairs
with tomes of knowledge written from days past yet still valuable. As for
the sites that remain current with the times, they are beacons if not strongholds
of this complex game we love to play. Read on friends!
Red Arrow's Mark Presents:
Rumblings of a
Battle
in Seattle
The Seattle, Washington based play group (Minas
Tirith) held an MECCG game on June 23, 2001. The event was held at the
Crossroads Mall in Bellevue, inside the Wizards of the Coast store.
Here is an account of that event...
Paul Choquette's Report
Here's my report of the game we played. We had
the following players: Randy Kintner, Alex (Randy's nephew), Andy Paik,
Loys Johnson, and myself.
We decided to play a multiplayer game as we had one newbie
and thought it would be easier to teach with multiple people. Loys
was a little late so it also worked out, so he could just join in and no
one would be out one round waiting, etc.
Randy played a Northern Kingdom Reclaimed deck.
Alex played an Aragorn deck. Andy played a Galadriel with hobbits
deck. Loys played a minion covert ring deck. I played a Gondor
resource half with a detainment/agent-oriented hazard half.
My company didn't really have many problems except for
assassins. Originally the deck was a Rivendell deck, but I swapped
it out as I was tired of playing that. Unfortunately, I really didn't
tune my resource side up as far as events go, mainly just changing items,
factions and allies. Forewarned is Forearmed (FiF) would've helped
me out a lot. Imrahil influenced the Riders of Rohan from Andy's
company using the Red Arrow (Eomer had already bit the big one earlier).
That was about the only nifty thing I pulled out of my resource half. :)
One thing that was annoying: I didn't include more wizards in my sideboard
and so I ended up without a wizard as Alex and Andy had played my wizards
before I got either one out. :(
My hazard half worked out decently. My agents saw
quite a bit of action. Anarin took on Galadriel armed with Orcrist
in Lorien! The detainment creatures worked well for the most part.
Loys kept BotIS (Bane of the Ithil Stone) out most of the game, hosing
up my elf recycling capabilities. I had AaU (Alone and Unadvised)
on Halbarad and couldn't shake it with a roll. So I saved my Marvels
Told for my moving company rather than targeting the BotIS... maybe not
the best move thinking back on it. :)
Due to the way we were seated around the table, most of
my hazards fell upon Alex or Andy. I found myself frustrated a few
times as I had a hazard that may have tapped out Loys or Randy, but they
had smaller companies and the haz limit was gone before it came round to
me. We were playing the hazards starting on the resource player's
left and it cost 1 to the limit to pass the remaining haz limit to the
left.
I believe the final scores were: Randy (32), Andy (30),
Alex (21), me (20), and Loys (11?)
I'd say we all had a good time and it was good to play
again. Hopefully we can make this a monthly thing.
