These are the results of a 3 day census by one agency located in the Asbury Park area as published. This is obviously an incomplete snapshot of homelessness in this area. I apologize for the vague descriptions!

239 people with minor children

173 people live with their children

39 people had to put their children with a relative or friend

71 people live in a boarding home

135 people live in transitional housing

18 people live in jail

60 people live in the streets

6 people live in vacant buildings

32 live in emergency shelter (Monmouth County only has 2)

152 in motels

19 people live in a hospital or treatment facility

14 in over crowded houses or apartments

44 people are doubled up with friends or relatives

6 live in sub-standard housing

20 people sleep on the floor of the city hall in Asbury Park

Unknown number of people sleeping in their cars

Unknown number of people in the process of being evicted

61% are homeless for more than 3 months

28% are homeless less than 3 months

11% have a long history of homelessness
