Red Raider Report 12/17/00 |
||||
Colgate continues to struggle heading into the holidays, the womens basketball team lost soundly to Canisius today in a high scoring game. They have now lost 5 of the last 6 games. However, in the most recent fanpoll, people gave them the greatest chance of improving over the rest of the season. They have it in them, we're just waiting for it all to come together. The Patriot League should be very competitive this year, so Colgate is going to need all the tough games they can get before the league schedule starts in a few weeks. They have a west coast trip coming up at New Years. The Mens Hockey team slid even farther in their game at UMass Lowell last weekend. Lefevre let in 5 goals in just half a games work. Colgate didn't show signs of life until Dan Stay knocked a player out cold with a hard shoulder. Was it a good hard legal hit, or a cheap shot, or even highsticking? The refs called nothing on it, but UMass decided to try to even things out. There were almost 140 minutes in penalties, 100 of them coming in the final few minutes, the majority being by UMass. Ugly finish to an ugly game, Colgate moves up to being the 7th worst team in division 1 according to an unnoficial source at USCollegehockey online. The Womens Icy Hockey team remained third in the nation this week. They get a taste of ECAC division 1 action when they meet Niagara on the 30th. Niagara took two off of Wayne State earlier this season, who we split with. Niagara is currently 8th in the ECAC, so this will be a good test to see how we will do next year. Howard Blue picked up rookie of the week honors for the Mens Basketball team. He's been one of our top players so far, and still shows a lot of potential for improvement, look for big things out of him in the years to come. The team is currently 4-4. They still have more tough games before the league schedule starts. If we can finish the season with a winning record, our chances look good for next season. But the way the league is this year, the league finals are not unreachable if we can iron out some of weak points. The official fall President's Cup standings aren't out yet, but I have us unofficially at 26.5, which should put us in the middle of the league. Whats not so good about those numbers is we were predicted to capture 33.5 points. Every team finished lower than expected, with the exception of womens cross country, who finished at 5th, which is where they were predicted, and mens cross country, who took 3rd instead of 5th. A strong running program will help us out through the winter season and in the spring. Look for a full article once the official stats come out. I've been working on some new ideas at athletics the other day. Look for a few new promotions at the hockey games this spring, as well as some other stuff here and there. I'm working on a few video promotions projects as well, it might be possible for this site to contain video clips in the future. I'm also going to have time to get caught up with this site over break, I'm staying at home most of the time, doing some teacher observing for my future career. That alumni page will hopefully be up around the time of this sites one year annaversary. There might also be a recruits page, alltough I'm not sure if I should be the one trying to sell Colgate, seeing as I failed my tour guides interview. But I'll give it a go. Enjoy the holidays, the next report should be on Wednesday evening. Go back to the Ramblings page |
