The Penn State eleven are coming to the Chenango Valley tomorrow afternoon for a battle with the Red Raiders.  Bob Higgins team will be packing an offensive punch, but a 1-3 record.  They have a blowout win, two close losses, and one blowout loss.   This 28 member team will need to end a Colgate streak to avoid having one of their own ended.  The Nittany Lions have scored in every game this year, Colgate has yet to be scored on.  They do have some offensive firepower, especially in the air.   Berry and Woolbert are both very good tackles, Spike Collins is the captain and quarterback, and he is a real triple threat.  Lohr will be the star running back, he's as powerful and deceptive as a presidential candidate!   Colgate won last years contest 32-7, but only had a small lead at halftime.   NYU is expected to be better, as evidenced by the fact that several of last years starters are now on the second team. Colgate is still the heavy favorite.

The mood on campus this past week has been electric, as the student body prepares for homecoming weekend.    The student body is very enthusiastic and confident about this game, and some would argue we are being too confident.  At the student association meeting on Wednesday, one concerned student spoke up to say we cannot be over confident, and there is still a long way to go.   The coaching staff agrees with this, saying that the team gets so much of it's energy from the students, and need the students to be just as focused and prepared as they are.

Coach Kerr was not pleased with the teams effort this past week, but has no plans on changing the starting line up.  The first team had monday off, the full team scrimmaged on tuesday.  Wednesday and Thursday were spent working on specific plans, mostly passing plays from both the offensive and defensive standpoint.   There will be a light work out friday.  Bob Samuel is close to 100%, he has been practicing with the team this week, working to get his spot back.  And it has been the greatest position battle of the season, as Jack Fritts is unwilling to lose his spot easily.  Bob Samuel has onyl lost one football game.  He was a quarterback at Mercersburg for several undefeated seasons.  The freshman team was undefeated when he was under coach Watkins tutaledge, and the Varsity only lost one game last year.

Johnny Orsi talked a little about his Hollywood experience today.  Orsi spent several months working on a fild about the 1931 All Americans.  While John admits to being a good actor, he maintains his love is still sports.  He took Bing Crosby and Nick Stuart on a fishing trip one weekend.   Orsi was also seen escorting several lovely actresses around town.  Not a bad way to celebrate your graduation.  Speaking of films, Smalley's Theatre has several of the newsreels from Colgate's game at Lafayette.  They will be showing these, along with their regular features this weekend.
