JO's RaNt PaGe....
I appreciate spirituality much more than religion. I think this is because I
associate spirituality as being within ourselves, and religion as belief in
an outer entity. Whereas we can control our spiritual being, we have little
or no effect on this outer diety, other than that our aim is to please him
(usually a him) while he looks down on us from some wonderful place (usually
in the sky). It's quite bizarre that people still think that when they die
some wonderful light beam will whisk them up to a special place where no bad
can happen and they will be greeted by their dearly departed aunty Doreen.
It's funny that in countless illustrations we see "God" and a few random
angels pottering around on clouds, and some people seriously seem to buy this
idea. But still, you're unlikely to catch them staring up at the night saying
"a ha! there goes my dead goldfish Fred! God bless him!". Yes we are energy,
and energy never dies, but we decompose. We decay and go back to the ground-
we probebly end up in flowers and trees and the sea and who knows what else.
I know that's quite a strange image but think about it- we return to nature.
If something like two thirds of our bodies are made up of water, it's
inevitable that one day peices of you will end up in the rain. And isn't that
almost as pretty an idea as sitting around on a cloud enjoying your eternity
in "Happy Land"? Because "God" is an outside entity whose existance is
unprovable and effect unmeasurable we can ony consider him to exist through
those who belive that he does. Therefore "God " is a number; the amount of people who belive in him. We use religion as an easy excuse for answers to
questions that we can't even begin to comprehend. For example we cannot
understand not existing since it is something we've never known, so instead we say that after your body dies you continue to exist and float up to
heaven. But then we cannot grasp the concept of an eternity- much less
spending an entire one in the same place, so we bring about the theory of
reincarnation. la la la and so the stories come and go, and it all gets quite
ridiculous. now turn to spirituality and think of how much insight you can
gain, how much understanding and how many answers are aquired by looking truthfully inside yourself. no doubt many more than you'll get waiting for
that huge voice to come thundering down, abeit with accompanying lightning
bolts. It just seems to me that we should concentrate on what we know to
exist, what we control, change, and essentially are... instead of an unknown
being that has no true meter or apparant circumstance. Am I making sense?
Damn I feel like starting a cult now...

I know this sounds a little odd, but hey i'm jo, thats what i do best :)
