Ryan Rupe. Rupe. Rrrrupe. RUPE! Nope, no matter how I say it, or how many times I say it, that name just doesn't strike fear into me. But somehow it did strike fear into the Red Sox bats, maybe it was that 7.99 ERA going into the game. Whatever it was, the Sox bats were as silent as they can get, but still be enough to win.
Is this what it's come to? I'm not even happy when we win? If it wasn't for the D-Rays bull-pen we wouldn't have won that game last night. Actually we should probably be thanking the D-Rays GM for trading away most of their pen at the deadline, otherwise it would have been another single digit (one run) game for the Sox.
The frightening thing is, what happens when we finally start facing some real pitchers? Can you say no hitter?
For the last week or so all i've done is whine and moan about how sad this team has become. Actually I should say how sad the offense has become, becasue the pitching has been great. But somehow over the last six days we've gone 4-2. So why am I still unhappy? Probably becasue it's obvious how much this team is still underacheiving. We should be blowing teams out, but instead we're being shut down by RYAN RUPE!
I'm scared to death at what i'm capable of doing Friday when I go to the game. Maybe a plunge from the green monster is in order (just kidding).
Oh, the Sox did win last night 4-3, I think that may have got lost in the shuffle above. It was pretty much more of the same, a second rate pitcher shut us down for most of the game, but this time we were able to get to the D-Rays pen and score some runs. Carl Everett had the big blow in the game, a two-run single in the seventh to put us ahead for good.
Rolando Arrojo picked up his second win in a Sox uniform, allowing only two runs over seven innings. He may have had a bit of the "revenge factor" going in this game, but regardless it was a very well pitched game, and that makes two in a row for him.
Speaking of good pitchers, Rick Helling (a Red Sox killer to begin with) and the Texas Rangers roll into town tonight for a four game set and Tim Wakefield takes the helm for the Sox at 7:05pm EST.
