...and then there was a day of rest. Thank God for Pedro. He wasn't crazy strikeout guy like he usually is last night, but the end result was still vintage Pedro. Another complete game, another shut down of a good offense, and another win for Pedro in a Red Sox uniform.
Pretty much all the offense Pedro would need was generated in the first inning. A couple of two-run doubles provided by Nomar and Tek (where was that hit in the marathon?) was all that would be needed. The Sox snagged another run in the fifth with a two-out single by Nomar, and then it would be Pedro the rest of the way.
Now it is discouraging that we did it again. We had all our offense in one inning then packed it up for the night. But we have to remember, the Sox have the best team ERA in the AL. Guess who has the second best? Yup, the M's. Freddy Garcia may have had injury problems most of the year, but he is still a very good pitcher, and you need to get to a guy like him early like we did yesterday.
Pedro ran into a bit of trouble in the eigth inning allowing a couple of runs, but I guess that shows that he's only human. Could have been tireing a little too, but nobody, absolutely nobody, was avalaible out of the pen, with the exception of newcomer Rick Croushore. Anyone think it's possible that Pedro toned it down a bit yesterday so he'd throw less pitches and be able to throw a very much needed complete game? Probably not, but it was just a thought.
A sorely needed day off today before we start a three game set at home verse the Royals. We need to enact some revenge here folks, remember, it was the Royals who Johnny V went down against. And it was also KC that started our June swoon, and not so great play ever since. Why not turn things around against the team that started it.
