  • Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I was at the game last night! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! I can't stop cheering! Ahhhhhhhhhh! This team is going to send me to my grave in the end.

Sorry about that, it may have been a bit silly, but I had to get it out of my system. Well, they did it again, another last at bat come from behind victory. It was the first time I was treated to such a thing while actually at the game. I've been to a couple that have gone in the oppostie direction, but never this way. I think I like what happened yesterday better.

There were three scenarios running thru my head as I was at the game last night on what I was going to talk about today on the site:

  • How Arrojo was one strike from us winning the game in nine innings. Rolando got himself two quick outs in the sixth inning, and then went to an 0-2 count on Troy Glaus. After walking Glaus on the next four pitches, he hit Benji Molina in the back. Next was the pint sized Adam Kennedy. Arrojo must have lost concentration or something, as Kennedy deposited his first pitch into the Sox pull-pen for a three-run bomb. I understand not giving Glaus a pitch to hit, but on 0-2 with two outs, it's OK to challenge him, the worst that can happen is a solo shot. But we overcame.

  • Second was how Jason Varitek continues to suck with runners in scoring position. I know he came thru on Saturday for Pedro, but he's been so inconsistant it's scary. Was last year an abberation? I refuse to believe that. Early in the game with runners on 1st and 2nd Tek hit into a double paly. Then in the eleventh with no-outs and the bases juiced, Tek hit the ball pretty much the only way possible for the Angels to get two outs, and us not score the tieing run. But we overcame.

  • The third scenario flashed as Manny Alexander, on first in the eleventh with the bases loaded, started back towards first base when Tek hit the double-play ball. Had Mo threw the ball to second instead of third, we'd have witnessed a triple play to end the game, and probably the death of Manny Alexander. But we overcame. Nah, just flat out lucky!

  • But the scenario that we do get to talk about is the hero, Brian Daubach. Daubs may be struggling at the plate, but when it comes to crunch time he seems to come thru more times than not. Last year against the A's, this year against the Blue Jays and Mets, come to mind immeditely. And from listening to the radio on the ride home, it's the seventh time he's done it in the last two seasons. Flat-out clutch!

If you missed the game and have no idea what i'm talking about, SHAME ON YOU! The write up above is for those who saw the game and don't need it explained to them again.

Anyway, as noted above there were three very bad things I was all set to rant about on the site today. Somehow, someway, the Sox (actually Brian Daubach) prevented me from doing so.

Oh, and one other thing that must be mentioned, was the defense last night, it was phenomenal. The Sox cut down two Angels at the plate, one being from deep center field on a frozen rope to the plate by Carl Everett. O'Leary had a beat on the ball but wasn't in throwing position, Carl was. He called off Troy, caught to ball and gunned down Tim Salmon which turned out to be game saving. The other was early in the game with the Angels having the bases juiced and less than two-outs. Daubach (again) was on the infield grass and had a hard grounder hit to him, in which he turned into an out at the plate.

A play by Offerman at second also needs to be mentioned. The Angels weren't going to score, not on this play anyway. But there was a slow roller towards second as Jose charged it. He had no time to set and throw to 1st, so while stumbling to the gound he threw the ball practicly from his belly, and got the runner at first. A play that definetly charged up the team, and got things going in the ninth.

Alot of good things happened last night, i'm counting on Tim Wakefield to keep it rolling tonight against Kent Mercker and the Angels. Game time 7:05pm EST.
