On the heals of the injury to Brian Daubach, who it looks like may miss atleast two weeks, this isn't all that bad of a move. Both Bichette and Daubach have similar numbers, the only disparity is that Bichette has a higher average and Daubach can play the field.
With Daubach uninjured this move just further clogs the DH/1B position, beacuse there's no way Jimy is going to put the 1999 ML leader in errors for a left fielder out there to play the wall. Right? But with Daubs on the side-lines, atleast we have somewhat of a back-up.
Bichette is making $7 million this year, of which the Sox are responsible for around $1 million of, and I believe that this is the final year of his contract as well. Though I have read that Bichette has a $6.5 million base salary for next year, which i'm pretty sure is an option that the team will not execute.
I'm still not sure how I feel about this move, if Bichette comes out firing of course i'll be on his bandwagon faster than anyone else. But as everyone knows, Bichette's career numbers have been marred by the five or so years he spent in the friendly confinds of Coors Field in Colorado. His numbers are decent this year, but nothing special, as I said earlier, their comparable to Daubach's.
Maybe a change in scenery will provide a spark, hopefully anyway. Bichette should be with the team tonight as the Mariners come to town for a four game set. It's September 1st and the Sox have 32 more games to play. Time to put up or shut-up. We need to go an absolute minimum of 21-11, that will put us at 90 wins, and just might be enough to crawl into the Wild Card spot. I'd much rather we over take the Yanks and not have to worry about the other six teams that are still alive in this thing.
In another deal the Sox made yesterday DD reaquired outfielder Midre Cummings from the Twins. Remember him? He was on the Sox a couple of years ago, and actually played a part in one of the dozen last at bat victories we had in early April of that season. If I remember correctly it was against the Tigers and Cummings hit a game winning homer in the 8th inning at Fenway Park.
Rolando Arrojo gets the nod tonight at 7:05pm EST. He's been going good lately and he really needs to step it up now. The M's have been faltering big time lately, lets keep it that way.
