I'm going to try my hardest to not go into a profanity laden tirade, ala Carl Everett, in this write up, but i'm not real sure there's any other proper way to describe last nights game.
Lets see hmmmm... The Yankees are finally into that tough schedule we knew they had ahead of them, and you know what, their losing. Yesterday the Yanks dropped their third in a row to the Mariners and the "new ace" Neagle got hammered. So what do the Sox go and do? LOSE THREE IN A ROW THEMSELVES!!! And against much lesser teams to boot.
Could we have made it any easier for Jarod Washburn last night? The guy was fresh off the DL (and it looks like he could be headed back), and we're up there hacking at the first pitch. It wasn't until the 5th inning last night that we made an out by something other than a pop-up. Are you kidding me? Hey Jimy! You know there is such thing as the take sign. It's a simple call, when I was in high school the take signal was when my coach touched the brim of his hat, it's that simple. Why don't you try it, becasue other than Nomar and maybe Everett, you should be giving the take sign to every batter.
It was discusting last night, hitter after hitter were poping up on the first and second pitch. I think Washburn threw like thirty pitches thru the first four innings.
Oh and to add to that we got another solid pitching performance, one that definetly deserved a win. Yeah Ohka gave up two homers, but both were solo shots, and for the most part he had good control last night. Of course Brice Florice had to remind us that we still have a John Wasdin wanna be on the team. Florie proved one again he cannot be counted on to keep a game close, as he came on to pitch the ninth of a 3-1 ballgame and promptly game up another run, forcing the ever so putrid offense to actually score more than two runs in an inning.
I am beyond frustrated! My breaking point is quickly being approached, and I see no end in site of the lack of offense. They say that pitching and defense wins championships, well somehow our Sox have found a way to disprove that theory. Our pitching, especially the pen, has been phenomenal all year, but when you average 2-3 runs a game, it's simply not going to get it done. For some reason I long for the day of the bashing offense we used to have and the poor pitching. We still usually lost, but atleast there was a reason to watch.
I belive Pedro takes the hill tonight for game two of the series at 10:05pm EST.
