July 13th vs Mets
Win 4-3

  • Boston Globe: Nixon Rips Clemens
  • Providence Journal: Duke looking for bats
  • Boston Herald: Sabes ready for rehab start

I was all set to just completely go off in this update. I was all set to scream and yell that we don't score runs for Pedro (which we didn't). I was all set to say we were back up to our old tricks, not coming thru in big situations. I was all set to say how we made a mediocre pitcher, at best, in Bobby Jones look like a Cy Young contender. And finally I was all set to rip apart Brian Daubach for not coming thru in that big bases loaded, one out, situation early in the game.

But with a little luck, and one swing of the bat, it all changed. Was it just me, or did I hear most of Boston give more of a collective sigh of relief, than a huge cheer, when Daubach redeemed himself with the two-out game winning double in the bottom of the ninth?

Just before that inning started, I tried to use the ole reverse psychology routine. I said to my wife that I didn't think the Sox had a ninth inning come back all year. Usually it doesn't work, and I have to admit I had lost pretty much all my confidence in the team for this game. But some way, some how, it worked out. WOO HOO!

Lost in this shuffle was a masterful return by Pedro Martinez. Pedro went seven full innings allowing only five hits, two earned runs, one walk, and ten strikeouts. He should have had the win, but i'm sure Pedro will be the first to say, as long as we win, who cares.

Looks like it's possile we may have MORGAN MAGIC part II brewing, in Morgan Burkhart. Burkhart just continues to hit, makeing most of us wonder where the heck he's been all year. The bigget blow off his bat last night was a two-run shot which, at the time, put the Sox in the lead 2-1. The fans have easliy found a new favorite, the kid just goes out and does his job, plain and simple.

I'll be at tonight's game which has Pete Schourek scheduled to take the hill against Glendon Rusch. Let's hope Pete can come back from his end of the first half stuggles, and that the Sox finally start scoreing runs for the guy.
