July 20 @ Orioles
Won 11-7
Lost 9-4

  • Sorry about the late recap(12:30pm EST), I have the late shift at work today, and I just rolled out of bed. Anyway as i'm sure you know by now the Sox split the double header against the Orioes yesterday, getting them within one game of the first place Yankees, but probably should be only a half game back.

The first game featured alot of hitting by both teams and some poor pitching. Ramon continues to struggle in the first inning as he allowed a grand slam to Will Clark after Carl Everett had staked him to a 2-0 lead after the fist half inning with a 2-run blast.

Ramon settled down a little and was able to pitch into the sixth inning. The lead however bounced back and forth until the Sox took full control in the 7th. With a two-run lead, two out, and men on 2nd and 3rd, Troy O'Leary came thru once again with a big hit to drive in the two runs. Troy finished up the day 4-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Nomar also had himself a day going 3-5 with a single, double, and triple.

  • As Much as the first game was full of big hits, the second was full of missed opportunities, as the Sox dropped the game 9-4. Pete Schourek struggled again and John Wadsdin continues to prove that he just can't pitch in a pressure situation. Bryce Florie was also bad again, but that was also after the Sox had squandered some big opportunities.

After Wasdin came in to relieve Pete Schourek, who had loaded the bases, Wasy procede to throw a meatball to the next batter on a 3-2 pitch, which was promptly laced into the gap and cleared the bases. Once again Wasy stinks the place up.

The Sox had their chances though, both in the 7th and 8th they had the bases loaded and failed to get anything across the place. Manny Alexander, who was forced into the line-up due to a Jeff Frye injury, was up there flailing away at any pitch that came towards him. And Brian Daubach (though he has come thru alot lately, he can't do it all the time) and Ed Sprage ended both innings repectively with em' juiced.
