Woo Hoo! A Win! A Win! You know, even though we won last night, I still saw alot of negatives in that game. But that's the last your going to hear of it. I'm going to chalk my total scrutiny of everything, up to our lack of good play for over a month. So This recap will focus soley on the good that came out of last night. We need to get it going now, and focusing on the negatives is going to get the team nowhere.
First and foremost, the game against the Twins last night marked the return of Troy O'Leary off the DL, and a triumphant return at that. Now by no means does one game signal the turn around of a season for a player, we learned that the hard way with Daubach's six RBI night last week, only to do nothing in the next four games. But if you're going to get things going, this is how you do it upon your return. Troy came back and had a 3-5 night (short of the cycle by only a triple), a homer, and drove in three runs.
If the Sox are going to turn things around, Troy needs to turn it on in the second half. To do this, he's going to need the fans support. His personal life is none of our business, it's what he does on the field that should be our concern. I will be at the first game of the series between the Sox and Braves on Friday when they return home, and when Troy steps up to the plate, he's getting a standing O from this fan. He needs it, and so does the team.
Obviously with the Sox scoreing eleven runs there are a few other guys to mention. Well the Sox hit all their homers during their nine-run fourth inning. Carl Everett and O'Leary started the inning off by going back-to-back out of the yard. Next Jason Varitek with a runner on, hit one out and to finish things off Morgan Burkhart hit his first homer of his career, and a three-run job at that. Overall a great night for the O.
Noticably absent from the line-up was Nomar Garciaparra. I'm assuming it was just a day off from him, as Manny Alexander took over at short for the night. If I hear anything that says otherwise it will be posted here on the site immediately.
Other game notibles was the relief performaces from Hipolito Pichardo, Rheal Cormier, and Derek Lowe (18th save) who came in to shut down the sparking Twin offense.
There were a number of things I can point out that I didn't like about the game. But with wins coming few and far in between lately, i'm not going to get greedy.
Tonight's game from Minnesota is scheduled for a 7:00pm EST start with Tim Wakefield taking the hill.
