Twelve runners. Twelve. That's how many guys we left on base yesterday. We made Ramiro Mendoza look good yesterday, beacuse he ceretainly didn't do it himself. After the smoke had cleared from me flipping my lid when Jimy left Wakefield out there in a 1-1 game, I cleared my head, and stopped putting blame on Tim, and instead on the team that failed to muster any offense.
It was sick, we had the Yanks on the ropes on more than one occasion, and mustered one run, discusting. Now there are going to be those who jump all over Wakefield, and start with the "I told you so" speech. But a 1-1 game in the 8th is not Wakefileds role on this team, it's no knuckleballer's role. I think Wakes should be in the rotation, but if he is coming out of the pen, you use him for spot starts, mid-game relief, and as a "arm saver" for the pen, not as a guy to shut the door in a 1-1 game.
All last night I was furious with Jimy, I can't believe he made that move, with all those lefties coming up, and Cormier ready to go. I still think it was a bad move, but it was also a situation we didn't have to be in, had the offense done anything. On top of that, Pedro was fine, he could have gone longer, but this whole "babying" the players thing is getting way out of hand. Unless Pedro's is still hurting and their not telling us, that whole thing baffles me.
No game tonight, the Sox return to Boston tomorrow for some home cooking, a seven game homestead against the Jays and Yanks. We need to turn the burners on soon, this is a big week coming up.
