Now that is more like it. I was at the game last night and it was pretty apparent that Sox fans had alot of pent up frustration to let out. The crowd really got into the game, a crowd i'm happy to report was highly concentrated in Sox fans, unlike previous seasons.
As for the game, Pete Schourek started off pretty well and got himself out of a bases loaded situation in the fifth relatively unscathed (one run). But in the sixth he got in trouble again, and was taken out of the game. I guess we should be happy that someone other than Pedro made it past the 5th.
If you were watching you know the game was a seesaw battle the whole way until the Sox broke it open in the 7th with a five run inning. Combined with some very poor bullpen relief of the Yanks, the Sox, especially Trot Nixon came up with some huge hits. The game clincher coming off the bat of the aforementioned Nixon. With the Sox up by two, two outs, and the bases loaded, Nixon one hopped the bullpen wall and drove in two runs. Two runs that would proved to be vital in winning the game.
The Sox went into the ninth with a four run lead. Derek Lowe came in and got two quick outs, but then allowed a single and then a home run to Bernie Williams, cutting the lead to 9-7. But that is where the score would stay and the Sox pulled themselves back within a half game of the Yanks.
I'll be there again tonight for the finally of the series. Ramon Martinez take the helm and hopefully he'll fair a bit better than his last outing against the Jays. The game is slated for a 7:05pm EST start time.
