Sweeping a division opponent is the one of best thing a ball club can do in the regular season. Why again couldn't we win just one game. 4 errors by a major league baseball team. 15 Hits in 52 at bats through 13 innings. What is going on? We can't hit, we can't field, we have the best pitcher in baseball getting rocked. The other pitchers in the league can be hit, just not by us. I don't really know if getting a new pitcher, or a new outfielder is the answer. What will make this team turn around, hopefully Jimmy knows.
I do have to give credit where credit is due, the bullpen did not let up an earned run in six innings. They did a very good job. Pedro made some mistakes, yes he struck out 10 Jays in 6 2/3, but he also continued having problems keeping the ball in the ballpark, giving up three home runs.
Alcantara was called up, got the start, didn't show the power he had in Pawtucket. Leading the team by a wide margin with 20 home runs. Garciaparra has nine errors, many of which have come in the past fews days. Let's hope there is no "Knoblauchitis" going around in his head.
I will say it again, how about the offense. How often have you seen the Sox start off the game strong and ending as if they thought the game was only 6 innings long. There are nine, in order to baseball games you need runs in the late innings. There is no reason to stop after 6. Even if we get one hit every inning, that means 9 left on, something we have become all to accustomed with, unfortunately. There was a lot of action early, just about everyone had something to do with early runs. Eight more hits after the Carpenter was pulled and we couldn't get one more run.
3rd place in the AL East. Remember the good old days, like 2 weeks ago. Now losing 7 of 9 games we tuck our tails and run, and against division opponents makes it worse. The sox continue in the AL East hosting Baltimore for three, then heading out to "The New" Comisky and face the red hot Chicago White Sox. Perfect time to start a winning streak.
The game at Fenway on Tuesday against Baltimore is scheduled for a 7:05pm EST start.
