Ok, that's it, Pedro is God. Who else can pitch that amazing this consistantly? He just strolled up to the mound, against one of the best hitting teams in the game, amidst the worst stretch of play the team has had all year, and alomst throws a no hitter. What else can be said? Pedro finished the night 8IP 1H 0ER 1BB 10K and of course the win.
Now the Sox didn't exactly breakout with the sticks this game, but they were going against, who many call, the next Pedro, Bartolo Colon. Colon is no slouch, this guy can thow 98mph on his 125th pitch of the game, so it would be no easy task.
Pedro and Colon matched scoreless inning for scoreless innings into the seventh. That's when, "the savior" Carl Everett (that is the name I have dubbed him with), came thru once again with a bomb over the bullpen in right. Colon had pretty much dominated Carl to that point in the game. Everett made the needed adjustment and gave us all the offense we would need.
In the eight the Sox got a couple more base runners, but again were having trouble getting them across. With two out and Jeff Frye on third, the struggling Braind Daubach came to the plate. Earlier in the game Daubach had a very good at bat vs Colon, he went down 0-2 and fought back to eventually get a walk after fouling off a bunch of tough pitches. Then again in the 8th, in this crutial situation, Daubach fought Colon out of a two-strike count and dropped a base-hit into left field, putting the Sox up 2-0. That was Dauby's first RBI since May 24, this has to jump start him, to fight Colon like that and succeded is all the medicine you need.
Then, again with two-outs and Carl Everett on 2nd, Mike Stanley came thru with another big two-out hit, sending a bullet off the wall to score the run. Again another big two-out hit, hopefully this is a sign.
Some more good stuff to point out in this game, Jason Varitek seems to be getting him self going again, as he was hitting the ball well including a double off the wall late in the game. Also Troy O'Leary picked-up two hits as well, now this doesn't necessarily mean anything as far as him getting hot, but on each hit the crowd gave him a loud cheer. But it wasn't a mock cheer, it was an "alright lets get it going Troy" type of cheer. In years past O'Leary would have been booed out of the building, but the fans in the seats were behind him last night and they showed it. I'm sure Troy noticed it too, and hopefully this is what he needed to get it going a bit.
One more thing to mention, Wilton Veras seems to really be getting into things. He quite obviously was ticked at himself for not coming thru in the two opportunities he had to drive runs in last night. He needed something to go right, so in the ninth with the Tribe tyring to muster something against Derek Lowe (they didn't Lowe got his 13th save), Omar Visquel dropped a good bunt down the third base line. Veras charged the ball, bare handed it, and threw a bullet to first. After the play Wilton could bee seen pumping his fist, psyched about the play. This is exactly the type of thing we need to see out of Wilton, as the more his confidence grows the better he'll be for the team.
Whew long update, but there was alot of good to say about last night. The Sox have now won 3 of 4 and head into Atlanta for a three game weekend series. Jeff Fassero is matched up against Greg Maddux, should be a very good game. Start time is scheduled for 7:40pm EST.
