September 12 @ Indians
Won 8-6

  • Boston Herald: Sox take round 1
  • Boston Herald: Pen gets job done
  • Boston Globe: The plot thickens

  • Make that two very good starters we've defeated in a row. This one, Chuck Finley, a lefty who had also won his previous four starts. Maybe that's what it is, we need to face pitchers who are hot, either their due for a pounding or the Sox batters just concentrate a little more.

Ramon Martinez jeckyl and hide season continues as again he showed flashes of brilliance but there were also some stirs of trouble. Though he did give up a run in the first, a run that should never have scored, it wasn't his normal first inning problems that we've seen game in and game out all year. I think it was actually the Indians just having too many good hitters, so I guess the start wasn't all bad.

Ramon was lifted in the sixth inning and then the bull-pen, short of their two work horses in El Guapo and Pichardo, shut donw the tribe for the final four innings, yielding no earned runs.

For the most part it was one inning of offense for the Sox yet again, scoring six times in the third. But it was the second rally, in the eigth, that sealed the victory.

The offensive studds for the game were:

    Jose Offerman 2-4 R 2RBI
    Carl Everett 1-4 R 2RBI 2B
    Nomar Garciaparra 2-5 R 2RBI
    Dante Bichette 2-5 R 2RBI HR

The hits were plentiful as you can see, that is a good sign, we're going to have to hit alot to take this series.

Tomo Ohka is on the hill tonight in yet another pressure filled start. Even though we lost, Ohka came thru huge in his previous start against the Scanks, he needs to be equally huge again tonight. Game time 7:00pm EST.
