September 21 vs Indians
Double Header
Won 9-8
Lost 8-5

  • Nothing like bleeding us dry to the very end. As much as I wrote the Sox off in the recap yesterday, any true Sox fan doesn't give up hope until we're mathematically eliminated. As unrealistic it is to believe that we can still get into the play-offs, you have to remember who you are, a Sox fan. So with yesterday's split of the double header things get even more bleak, and even more unrealistic. I'm a glutton for punishment how about you?

After the Tribe jumped out to a 7-0 lead after a half inning things were shaping up to put the perfect exclamation point on the season. Rolando Arrojo, after retiring the first two batters of the game, completely lost it and allowed seven runs to score with two outs.

But then for some reason the offense decided to wake up (maybe it was the pressure of the race off thier backs and a just go out and play mentality), and roared back on the heels of a Troy O'Leary three run dinger in the fifth to tie the game at seven. The Sox would take the lead in that same inning and never looked back. Could it be? Is it? It can't be?

Don't worry it wasn't. As well as the pen pitched to finish off the game and snag game one, it just wasn't meant to be. Tim Wakefield was on the mound for the night-cap and pitched very well unitl the sixth inning. After getting himself into a 1st and 3rd no-out jam, he got the next two batters without allowing a run (score was 2-1 Tribe at the time). But then the flood gates opened and once again with two outs the Indians scored a bunch of runs, six of them, to make the game 8-1 and pretty much out of reach.

Of course our guys had to make it interesting as they scored two in the 8th and 9th (but also left a bunch of runners on base in those innings, juiced and two-on respectively), but it wasn't enough as the Sox fell short 8-5 and sunk even further behind in the standings.

I was at the game last night with my parents, the outcome was not exactly what we were all hoping for, but hey I got to go out to the ball park and watch the boys play. Thanks Mom and Dad.

The Orioles come to town tonight, as an unrealistic Sox fan, i'm going to say this. We have three left with Baltimore at home (last three home games), then head to the road for three with the White Sox and three more in Tampa Bay. We have to win em all, and get some help from the opponents of the teams ahead of us. Go Sox! Game time 7:05pm EST.
