September 22 vs Orioles
Lost 3-1

  • Boston Herald: Watch your back Jimy
  • Providence Journal: "Hey Everett! I'm Dissin You!"

  • Just to give you an idea of how bad things have become, i'm not going to even talk about the game today. The Sox lost 3-1 but in the grand scheme of things, it's irrelivant.

Dan Duqutte had declared war on Jimy Williams. As i'm sure you all know there was and "altercation" in the Sox locker room before the double header against the Indians on Thursday. In a nut shell, basically Darren Lewis and Carl Everett had to be restrained from eachother after Lewis approached Everett and told him it was disrespctful to his teammates to show-up late to the most imporant games of the season.

Apparently Everett took acception to this, and went on another of his "tirades". All season i've been trying to defend and look past the things Carl has done. There's no denying his talent, after Nomar he's the best non-pitcher on the team. But this time there's no defending him. Everett is wrong, plain and simple, and Duke is using this incident as a platform to get rid of Jimy.

Basically Duke backed Everett fully and said it should be the on the field stuff that matters not the off-field incidents. Well, then I have two word for ya Dukey, MO VAUGHN! I though it was the off-the-field stuff that called for his dismisal?

Duke has made alot of questionalble moves this year, from the way he dealt with Valentin, Stanley and Alcantara to his aquisitions in Bernard Gilkey, Ed Sprague, Mike Lansing, and Steve Ontiverous. Yes he did make some good moves, but they were only good as compared to what he had already done. Rolando Arrojo did pitch well for us, but he was awful all year with the Rockies, and Dante Bichette (though he helped) was aquired waay too late, and with a huge salary to boot for 2001. I was almost as if he was setting Jimy up to fail. Yeah I know that was a big leap, but how far of a reach is it?

Jimy sumed up Everett quite nicely. "There's no fines in September to try and get the guys to show up on time. You shouldn't need them." It was to that effect anyway.

Check out this article in today's Herald by Steve Buckley, it sums up the situation in full.

Oh, there's a game today too, 4:35pm EST.
