Even if your just a casual Red Sox fan you know what happened yesterday, so i'm not going to bother with a play for play recap. I'll just make a few points and get this over, as it really sucks to talk about the Sox when they come up with the big choke.
Nomar Garciaparra has to be more hurt than he's letting anyone know, even Jimy. Though he's showed signs of breaking out, prior to this series he had two hits in three of the Sox last four games, he just hasn't been the same Nomar we all know. There have been alot of pop-ups and a higher number of strikeouts and swing and misses than usual. Don't get me wrong i'd rather have a injured Nomar playing over a perfectly healthy Manny Alexander, but something isn't right.
Amazing how what seemed like a pointless homer, turned out to be not so pointless. I'm speaking of Jose Canseco's two-run bomb in the ninth off Wakefield making the score 5-1. Of course in the bottom of the inning after two quick outs the Sox had to tease us by knocking Mariano Rivera around for two runs and bring the tieing run to the plate, only to have Jimy pinch-hit Midre Cummings and watch him wiff.
Why Cummings? Both Daubach and Nixon were on the bench, and we know Dauber's track record in those situations. I guess Cummings deserved to play, beacuse he works hard, and he's a good kid. Whatever Jimy!
The pitch just before Brosious hit the three-run homer off Pedro, was a strike. I was out in the bleachers and it was painfully obvious that the ump screwed us and Pedro. It would have been strike-three. Seems like everytime we're robbed of a call it comes back and bites us.
We still need to win these next two games, we still have no realistic chance at the divison, but pretty soon we'll be out of Wild Card contention if we allow the tribe to get too far ahead. Their up by three games on us now, the only hope we have is the eight remaining games we have with them coming up starting this week. The season is slowly slipping away, and it sucks.
Pete Schourek gets the call today in probably the least likely winning match-up of the series thus far. Who knows maybe it's going to be opposite day. Game time 1:05pm EST.
