I hope you're enjoying yourself, you lazy beast. N'zir looked up to where his Bronze dragon was sunning himself on the Weyr ridge.
I am...very much so.
N'zir snorted and continued on his way. Threadfall had been the evening before and it seemed that he was the only one still feeling the fatigue...and the stiffness...Maybe he was just getting too old for this...though 30 turns wasn't all that old...was it? He sighed.
You are not old...you are just tired. We did more than most after the Fall. You had to talk to the Holders and conduct sweeps. And we had to take a tally of the wounded and make sure that they were comfortable...Then you had to give the Weyrlings another lecture...You are not getting old...you are just too busy.
Syrenth told his rider matter-o-factly. N'zir laughed softly.
Yes. I guess you're right...I am rather active, aren't I? Maybe I'll join you later...save me a spot would you?
Of course I will. When you are ready, I will come and get you.
They Weyrleader smiled a little as he continued across the Weyr Bowl. The smile widened as he caught sight of Adonea trying to wash the golden hulk that was her queen. Absently, he tried to figure out when the great queen's next flight would be...but he had too much on his mind to do the calculations...so he decided to try again later.
Though the next Fall was about a sevenday away for Tiamat, schedules had to be made up now. Wing drills needed posted, Sweepriders assigned, and Weyrling practices set as to not interfere with the wings' drills. He also needed to commission some new fighting straps and the Dragonhealers had requested more supplies from the South. Another sigh. He was never going to get a chance to relax.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
By early evening he was just finishing his "chores". Sometimes...he felt like no more than a weyrbrat with all he had to do. The dull ache in his legs turned to a mild burning as he crossed the Bowl again. He paused only briefly to yawn.
Now that he'd finished with the things on his mental list, he could leave the Weyr in Adonea's capable hands while he took a much needed rest with his dragon. He woke the sleeping Bronze and waited for him to stretch, take off, and land.
It's about time.
the dragon grumbled as he lifted his foreleg to aid his rider in mounting.
Don't you start. As you said..."I'm just too busy". He slid from the dragon's shoulder when he landed back on the flat ridge and waited for him to settle. Syrenth arranged his forelegs like a "cradle" into which N'zir climbed and got comfortable.
He was almost asleep when a blue firelizard appeared out of /between/ chittering loudly.
N'zir grumbled for the creature to be quiet...and after some rather harsh words from Syrenth, San settled himself on N'zir's stomach, curling up and chirping an apology. N'zir placed a hand on the blue's back and closed his eyes again, falling into a much needed sleep to the crooning of his friends.
