288. Elijah Palmer

Elijah and Ann apparently died at the same time in 1794. Ann's father,Rev Dobson, became guardian of Elias in 1794.
Elijah is the earliest authenticated Palmer ancestor. Earlier Palmers are unproven as of June, 2001, but believed to be correct.

Following from Palmer Forum on Rootsweb, 27 Dec 2001.
In my family records we have an Elijah Palmer born about 1860 (exact date unknown) in Amelia, Virginia. Also was an Elish (could have been Elisha)Palmer born October 15, 1755. Parents were Thomas Palmer, Sr. born October 25, 1725 and Mary Catherine Queness Dejarnette born about 1830 in Richmond County Va. The parents were married about 1747 in Richmond County, Va. They had 11 children. Elish was a male, the 6th born, Elijah was male, 9th born. Some of the other childrens names in the family were Elizabeth and Elias. Elish married Nancy Legrand in Halifax, New Jersey in 1782. Elijah married a Judith Hubbard. I have no children listed, but does not mean there were none. This line goes back to John Palmer, the first of the Palmers born in America in 1621 in Jamestown. His parents, Thomas and Joanne came to Jamestown on the boat TIGER. It was the third boat to Jamestown. They were royal subjects that were professionals chosen by the king to begin a colony in the New World. Thomas was born in England, 1590. This info was taken from Latter DAy Saints, county records, Daughters of American Revolution, and Jordans Journeys an old book of the early settlers of Jamestown, Va. I am sure there has been some speculation, but so far, other Palmers I have been in contact with the names, dates, and regions all match.

304. Reuben Steele

Reuben is the American patriarch of the Steele Clan.

306. Wendel Oury

Wendel Oury was a great Patriot and so recognized by the SAR. He was a Captain in the 8th Penn. Regiment and participated in earlier wars. That he was a leader is shown by authorship of a 1774 petition to Lord Penn for military security from the Indians on the frontier. The petition is eloquently written prose in a style similar to Jefferson.
The Oury's were early settlers of Westmoreland County, owning the property where Greensburg is now located. The family was active and extensive records exist in the Pennsylvania Archives.
Wendel moved his family to the Tazewell-Wythe Counties area of Virginia in the early 1780's. He embarked on land buying trip to Kentucky, with $1.000 in gold, and was never heard from again. Daughter Rebecca married Robert Steele, and Catherine, Windel's widow, returned to Westmoreland Co.

312. John Lacy

The Lacy family is known to have migrated to what is now Wolfe County in the 1790's. They settled on a stream now called Lacy Creek, near what is now the small town of Hazel Green. As of 1995 the "Homeplace farm" was still in the Lacy family.
