Dr. Robert Bowman, President/ Founder of Far East Broadcast Company, La Mirada, CA; a Man of Vision... In the halls of Far East Broadcast facilities, many... many years ago, Dr. Bowman first taught me the meaning of the phrase "Why do the nations rage? And the peoples devise a vain thing?" Thank you for the distinct privilege and awe-inspiring opportunity to share so many songs with FEBC's attentive audience of radio listeners on every continent... nearly starving to hear the Good News.
E. Raymond Capt, archaeologist/ writer... whose
work has been an inspiration since my first opportunity to enjoy an evening
slide presentation on the Ruins of Ninevah which he gave sometime in the late
1970s here in Los Angeles at one of the local junior high schools in the San
Fernando Valley.
Capt's scholarship is provocative and enlightening. And his writings always possess the essence of his numerous investigated themes. Many files on my homepage include resource quotes from his work. But in order to discover the wide variety of subjects E. Raymond Capt has addressed (I have and enjoy all his books... and I know you'll enjoy them, too!) Dr. Gene Scott, Philosopher/ Teacher, Man of
Courage - Once in a great while (perhaps in a life time, but only if
we're lucky) a real leader appears on the stage of history. Well, in
our generation, Dr. Scott is one of those rare leaders -- a man for all
seasons.
Never will you hear the word boring in context with this teacher! His life is an uncommon, lively presentation of the pursuit of excellence. His teaching is like a tremendous Gift found at Macy's Department Store during the Holidays... a wonderful Gift that doesn't fit any box. No matter how hard people try, their boxes are too small, and Dr. Scott is just way too big! So, what are you going to do? Leave the present at the store 'cause you can't find the right box? No way! Just put a bow on him, take his teaching home, and enjoy!
Regarding Dr. Scott and his marvelous teaching, I need to borrow a phrase: I don't think I'm right; I KNOW I'm right!
It is my privilege to call Dr. Scott my teacher. He has encouraged me and countless others to read and keep asking questions.
Take a look around... The Teachings of Dr. Gene Scott. And especially check out his written message entitled: "SuperNut or SuperNatural?"

Dr. Dallas Willard, philosophy
professor - USC; I owe Dr. Willard a great debt for the tremendous experience of nearly 2 years paying attention to his teaching. I still have hours upon hours of original cassettes from the late '70's. As Dr. Willard often said, "There IS Power... for a grand Purpose..., but first, there's going to be some preparation." Quite honestly, there's no reason why Dr. Willard would remember me. I have to have been one of his worst Philosophy 101 students; but I will never forget on FINALS day... when at the close, he came out and spoke to his students - spoke from his heart. As they had crowded in day after day, standing room only... so, likewise they stayed to hear him out. Never before or since have a heard of a university professor receiving a standing ovation for teaching students.
Away from the USC classroom, I'll never forget two points Dr. Willard made: Once after listening to a small ensemble sing a earlier century choral piece in a foreign language, he matter-of-factly commented... "Wasn't that simply beautiful? I was never really good at music, and have decided to reserve the study of music for life in the eternities." Another time, he was giving an illustration about "undisciplined disciples" and added, "Can you imagine if... right here, where you are, if you were told... 'Go raise that dead - or sick - person?' We'd probably respond, 'Not me!'" Those comments and many others were probably some of the first I had heard as a young person from somebody who actually believed in the power and presence of God - who actually led people in this life and to the next.
For me, it's been Dr. Willard's ability to communicate the priority lessons of life coupled with the discipline and grace of his life in stark contrast to what daily swirls around each of us... well, that for me has been a quite unforgetable lesson. Though it's hardly adequate and certainly late, thank you Dr. Willard... THANKS for all the lessons you taught setting my footsteps securely on a path of joy inexpressible.
