Preventer HQ, March 26, AC 201, 4:43 P.M.
(Heero's POV)
Duo started singing and dancing like a fool with Relena at his arm while at the same time trying to run to the exit of the HQ. He looked like a complete idiot, and Relena didn't look too good herself, she was in limbo between telling Duo off for making her public appearance so embarrassing, and laughing her head off. If I didn't know any better, I think Duo was trying to make Relena look like a wild woman, and he certainly was succeeding.
"Heero?" a questioning voice from behind me said.
I whirled around to see Trowa standing there, with Quatre at his side. And for some reason Quatre was holding a rifle... (AN: Hee hee... ^_^)
"Yeah, what is it?" I said in my normal gruff tone, looking slightly annoyed.
"I see you took the job as Relena's protector..." Trowa had a weird glint in his one visible eye.
Quatre's eyes bulged, he obviously hadn't known about my new assignment. "Y-You did? I wouldn't have guessed..."
"I have, and I need to go." Relena and Duo were already out the door.
Before I turned on my leave, Quatre said, "Just take care of her Heero. Both physically, and emotionally." He had a look of sincerity in his eyes, I guess he was one of the few that believed that I care for Relena.
But I don't.
"Hn." With that, I left. Jogging to the door to catch up with Duo and Relena.
Relena's black limo was waiting right on the curb, Relena was leaning against it, obviously trying to block out Duo's annoying screeches. He was now trying to sing opera.
I wanted Duo to shut up as soon as possible, so I just opened the far back door to the limo. I nodded to Relena, and she climbed inside the car. I shut the door, and I felt a strong hand on my back, Duo was looking at me with serious eyes. And when a clown's serious, it must be vital.
"Heero, I hope ya know that if you hurt the princess in any way, shape, or form, I'm gonna kill you... That is if Zechs doesn't get to you first, he might be on Mars, but he's still the most protective brother ever brought into existence."
Was it just me, or did everyone think I was going to kill her or something? Ok... going by my record, that's a bit believable, but still. Not to mention the fact that Duo seems to really care about Relena's life... Oh hell, she's the key to peace, of course he'd care.
I looked at Duo, meeting his gaze evenly, and said, "I'd never hurt Relena. So stop being so paranoid."
All of a sudden Duo's face lit up, his eyes turned to slits as a huge smile covered his face.
"Well then Heero! Now that I know how much you'll PERSONALLY take care o' her I don't have to worry! Jus' don't go too fast!" He made a peace sign, winked, then started hopping off like the moron he was. Pity he didn't stay longer, it always feels good to injure those less smarter than yourself.
I hate it when people mock me, on the matter of me and Relena that is. They think I'm just putting up a stupid facade, and that I really love the princess deep down. Well I don't. It's simple and clear. I just don't understand why people don't get that. It makes me wanna pull out a gun and show them no mercy. But because of that promise I made during the 2nd Eve war, I can't.
"Heero, are you alright?" Relena had rolled down her window and giving me a worried look. I guess I was standing here thinking so long that I lost track of time.
"Fine." I said it with an overly cold tone, but do I care? No.
I opened the limo door, and took my seat across from Relena. When I looked at her, she just took out a document sitting beside her, and started reading. She wasn't in the mood to talk, nor was I, so I just shut my eyes as the engine started, and we exited the parking lot.
I don't know what is ahead of me being Relena's new "guardian", but I'm certainly not going to do whatever Duo has in mind. I'm just protecting the person who is our main leader when it comes to pacifism. She's the people's "dove of peace" as they call her, and I intend to keep that dove from bleeding. No matter what it'll take.
