Objective

To satisfy the curious

Experience

1993–Present Relief Veterinarian All over Texas

  • Had enjoyed doing relief so, went back to it because flexible scheduling allowed time to spend with my boys for home school activities, sports, scouts, etc. I keep doing it because I like the variability and flexible schedule.

  • Have worked in > 80 different veterinary facilities – Have seen a LOT! Able to pass along good ideas.

1992–1993 1/3 Partner San Antonio, TX

  • Became partners with my bosses and bought another clinic.

  • Worked to grow the business. Learned more about problems of clinic ownership.

  • Resigned associate position and was voted out of partnership as a result. (Details upon request)

1990–1993 Associate San Antonio, TX

  • Worked on straight commission, therefore, learned to be quicker and more efficient; began to rely on use of estimates prior to performing any services, and became strict with "Payment due from client when services are rendered" policy.

  • Very busy, progressive clinic. Lots of diagnostics and surgeries.

  • Further developed skills of recommending needed services.

1990–1991 Relief Veterinarian San Antonio, TX

  • Began it while "between jobs".

  • Learned to really like the variety and scheduling opportunities.

  • Continued fulfilling engagements already booked after being offered associate position.

1988–1990 Associate San Antonio, TX

  • Upper-middle class clientele; able to extend diagnostic skills.

  • Did some of our own night-time emergencies.

  • Two clinics merged, position deleted.

1987–1988 Associate Houston, TX

  • High volume-low priced clinic, mostly "blue collar" type clients.

  • Gained lots of surgical experience.

  • Learned I didn’t like living in Houston

1986–1987 Associate Austin, TX

  • Had a smart boss/mentor; learned a lot about medicine, business, the art of practice and co-worker interactions.

  • Clientele varied from homeless persons and college students to large business owners and elected politicians. Began developing ability to cater to all income levels.

  • Did some of our own emergency calls.
