Cat-like Shinma. The character design was based off an Italian gigolo and given a long white coat and earpiece to add a magical touch to this deceptive shinma.

Hisae is the groups local bookworm. She is rarely seen without Yukari or Chisato as the group befriends Miyu.

Mirror shinma who tries to pose as Miyu and take her place as Guardian so that the shinma will no longer fear her wrath. Takes Larva's form at one point during battle, only to be forced back into his true form by Shiina.

Snake-like shinma that had been sealed before the Edo era. Her costume suggest she may be from the Heian era.

Kamen has two incarnations, human and amoebic creature. It is supposed that he is a shinma, though it is never said for certain in the series. When not out hunting, this ghastly apparition takes the form of a mask, which legend says was worn by a witch-doctor in Africa hundreds of years before. It is also discovered that Larva once fought this phantom when he was posing as a noble aboard a colony ship hundreds of years before the time he's introduced in the series. The mask controls young Kouichi until Miyu and Larva are able to break the mask that seems to be the source of its power.

A young girl with telikinetic powers that usually manifest in a manner similar to small quakes. After being orphaned while still very young, her older brother, Kiyoshi, is the only family she has left.

Married Professor Oshima after having starred in a film he never completed in college. She seems disastisfied with her life and her husband's obsession with film. Has her son, Ryosuke, and his family move into the house to help pay the morgage.

Was Ryuji until he was "killed" and given a new life with a new face by Oh-shu. Finds his old girlfriend, Yoko, and reunites with her as a new person. Once Oh-shu is returned to the darkness, he returns to his true form as Ryuji

Focuses on protecting and caring for his younger sister, Kayo. He is later deceived by the shinma, Cho-jyu and tries to kill Miyu, the only true friend the two siblings have found since their parents' deaths.

Michiko's boyfriend that helps her break into Miho's room to try and steal her "magical red shoes."

Yuko's older brother. Was controlled by the shinma Kamen for a time. Later changed his major from medicine so that he could protect the forest. Supposedly this is a result of residue from the mask's influence.

Shinma that is a combination of a piano and a horse, kind of like a Centaur.

Is considered to be one of the Guardians now that he is Miyu's servant. Larva was a stray Western Shinma prior to his first meeting with Miyu. His name is actually spelled and pronounced as "Lava" in the series. It is only in the manga and the OAV that his name is "Larva."

Travels with Garline. Western Shinma who uses a shell flute to use her powers.

Miyu's classmate who finds Kamimura and suspects Miyu's true life as a vampire.

Miyu and Machiyama's teacher who is controlled and later killed by Shinma. She is the only one the Machiyama considers to be his intellectual equal. She was bullied by her students because they had once caught her shoplifting.

Matsukaze is a doll that seems to be Miyu and her position as Guardian. Matsukaze has taken on a more realistic form since the death of Reiha's father to help fill the new void in the young ice demon's life.

Fellow classmate that Chisato and Miho see at Takashi's audition. She tries to sabatoge Miho out of jealousy. She gets her boyfriend Kiyoshi to help her break into Miho's room.

Fellow classmate that goes to Takashi's audition to support Chisato and ends up being selected as the winner of the audition.

Known as the Vampire Princess or Guardian, she travels with her 2 companions, Larva and Shiina, as she tries to seal away the last of the Shinma in an effort to save her family. She and her companions take up residence hidden from the outside world inside Saikawa Cemetery.

From Meiki University who offers Professor Oshima a job that he rejects because it's outside of his field.

Though he was happy with his wife, Kayoko, when they were younger, the two constantly argue about his work now. The most recent upset was when Kayoko threw away his film to clear the room for their son, Ryosuke, and his family.

Ice demon who holds a grudge against Miyu though until later on in the series it seems that she gets along with Miyu and it's only her other side that takes form in her doll and companion, Matsukaze, that seems to be against Miyu from the start. It is later discovered that Reiha harbors resentment towards Miyu because she garnished more attention from Reiha's father, seeing as he was one of the Guardian protectors, than Reiha herself did. He even died to save the young Miyu from the Crows.

Shinma who turns people into his "masterpieces" as living manicans who trancend time. He is a collector of fashion, and therefore takes the appearance of having scissors and a whip for arms (though the whip was originally supposed to be a measuring tape according to character designs).

Kayoko and Professor Oshima's son who moves in with them. He seems to be more concerned about his father's thoughts and feelings than his mother is.

Was sent to take out a target to end a rivalry, only resulting in his own "death." He was given a new face by the shinma, Oh-shuand a new life as "Kenji." His girlfriend, Yoko, panics when she sees him after she's fallen in love with Kenji and kills him in a vain attempt to protect her new love.

Mirror shinma who travels with Miyu and Larva after they help eachother escape from Shiina's mirror.

Yoshohiro's wife that works as an editor. Takes in Yusuke after her friends death only to suddenly discover she's obsessed with the cat as if it were her "baby." Kills her own husband when he tries to get rid of the cat only to realize what she's done because of Han-ki's tamporing and kill herself.

Music producer who is actually the shinma Kyo-koh. Tries to use Miho to his own purposes until Miyu discovers his secrets.

Though she is originally Ryuji's girlfriend, she has fallen for his new form, Kenji by the end of the episode. Yoko kills Ryuji when he apparently comes back from the dead, unknowingly killing her new love, Kenji, at the same time.

Victim found at start of first episode with vampire-like wounds on neck.

Saori's husband that works as an architect. Agrees to let Saori take in Yusuke after their friends death only to suddenly find his wife is a complete stranger as her new baby becomes her sole obsession. Thanks to Han-ki's tamporing, Saori kills him when he discovered the threat and tries to rid their lives of the cat's evil influences.

Yukari is the strongest of the odd quartet. Though she is protective of all her friends, this seems to especially be true of Chisato. Of the four of them, she and Miyu take Hisae's warnings about strange events seriously.

Yukari's friend from Class B. Her brother, Kouichi, suffers from fallin under the control of a mysterious witch-doctor's mask.

Gray pet cat with one silver and one gold eye. Families that take in this cat eventually come to consider it their "baby" and it over runs their lives until they are either killed or commit suicide. It is later discovered that Yusuke is actually the shinma Han-ki.
