rose Self Defense

It's wonderful to take those slow evening walks. But whether you're walking in the dark or in broad daylight, make sure you follow some safety precautions so your walk doesn't become a disaster.

* When you walk, try not to walk alone. If you are a woman, preferably walk with a guy. It may seem sexist but it may deter an attacker or a thief.

* Keep your head up. Look around you. Make eye contact with the people who pass you and don't let them get too close if you can. Be aware and you'll not only stay out of troubles, but you'll notice the flowers too.

* Avoid fiddling in your purse looking for something. Do that inside, not outside. When you go out, have the key you want ready, hang on to your purse, look around you.

* When you get in your car, lock your doors. Don't be so absorbed in what you're doing that you don't notice people. If someone points a gun at you and says to get in their car, you're better off running. They may be a bad shot. If you get in, you may be in worse trouble.

* If you do get attacked, don't give in. Yell NO as loud as you can - a male attacker is easily kicked in the groin if you do it with force and determination. Use the key you have ready as a weapon. If you are a guy, learn to throw a great punch to the nose and eyes.

* Above all, put power into it and call attention to yourself. Yell as you kick and don't let the person overcome you. You are as strong as you think you are!
