Reading faster can help make you more productive and informed - if you do it right. Don't confuse speed-reading with sloppy reading. * Use your fingers as a guide. They let you focus your eyes on the page as a whole and also see the lines you're reading. * Stop saying the words to yourself. Don't whisper them or even "hear" them in your head. Substitute some nonsense "bada bada" and say it out loud softly or in your head to prevent this. Now you can read faster since your brain isn't taking out time to convert words into sound. * Just read faster. Move your eyes so you see half a line, one line, or more at once. Your comprehension may go down a little, but you'll also have more time to read the whole thing again to catch what you missed. * Never ever stop and go back. You can reread a whole paragraph out loud twenty times with- out understanding a word. Sit quietly and read quickly and often your comprehension will be better. |
