rose Do Unto Thy Neighbor ...

...as you would have them do unto you, is the old adage, but sometimes, it helps to do more. And you'll feel great about it:

* Are they new? Are you new in the neighbor- hood? Bring over a batch of cookies or muffins or vegetables or bread. Or just stop by with some flowers to say hi.

* Volunteer in your community. Offer to babysit other kids after school, go to community meetings, serve food at the shelter, be a big brother/sister. Find something you personally like, and do it.

* Throw a block/apartment/street party. Invite all the neighbors, and make it a potluck, and even a barbecue in good weather. You'll meet everyone, and they'll get to know you.

* Keep in touch. You may never know what has happened to Mr.Smith's son across the street, unless you ask. And if you do ask, you might be able to help if and when something goes wrong. Reach out a little, especially to those who are a little shy.
