It's hard picking out a gift, sometimes even for people you think you know well. Maybe we can help: * Don't go for the standard. Unless you know someone who really needs and wants another tie, jewelry box, or scarf, avoid those items. Instead, try feel-good gifts - things that help the environment or the world in some way. * Do something quirky - and appropriate. Got sports fans? You don't have to get them more jerseys or sports equipment, try something like a frame with little sports decorations or a framed picture, or even tickets to a game. Go with interests you know they have, and try something new. * Find out what they like. Ask around. Ask friends and relatives. Check out their room. Do a little snooping - it'll show you've done your research and really thought it through. * Listen when they talk. From now on out, keep a pad and pencil with you. When Uncle Joe says sadly, "Darn, I wish I'd gotten to go see that play last week!" you know to get him tickets to the next show. Write it down, and do it. It'll make shopping easier too. * If all else fails? Just ask. Many people will say they don't know, but they always have types of things they would love to get (many women love more good make-up, for example). And go for things that are useful under any circumstances - a great comic book, a basket of fruits, box of chocolates, something homemade (and made well). You'll see grateful smiles all around! |
