Ever wish you'd asked your grandma what she was like as a kid? Worry that your dad really never went through the torture you did? Well, why are you sitting there? Find out: * Dig out your family tree. So many web sites and programs let you make trees now. If your name doesn't turn up, ask around. Ask parents, other relatives, and make a family tree with birthdays, anniversaries, and other information about each person. * Talk to your parents and grandparents. They have a million stories about each other and their siblings. How Uncle Bob couldn't say his r's or Aunt Mary used a bottle till she was 7. Some of the stories will be hilarious! They'll also have great advice to share, if you listen. * Write your memoirs. Make notes about things you and your siblings did as a kid, how your parents were, and grandparents. This is information you can share with your kids and they with theirs. * Get in touch with lost relatives. They may be long gone, but family is family. Even if you're not blood, or if you married into that other family, it can really be worth knowing about them. * Share your stories with the future. Let children gather at your feet and you, too, can share the stories of your glorious past. |
