UNDERSTANDING - Middle English, from Old English understandan, from under + standan to stand - an agreement of opinion or feeling

MUTUAL - Middle English, from Middle French mutuel, from Latin mutuus lent, borrowed, mutual, from mutare to change - having the same feelings one for the other

SELF - Middle English (intensive pronoun), from Old English; akin to Old High German selb, intensive pronoun, and probably to Latin suus one's own - the entire person of an individual
