rose Adopt an animal to love

If you're thinking about a new pet, or finding some new little animal to love, here are a few ideas to make your choice go the farthest:

* Instead of paying for a dog or cat, head to your nearest shelter. You can pick up abandoned and hurt animals and care for them. Often, you'll also get vouchers for shots and the first vet trip.

* Make sure you get your animal neutered or spayed. Unfortunately, they breed fast and that's why many are left abandoned, run over, or starving. You can prevent that by stopping their breeding - it seems cruel but in the long run it's kinder.

* Make sure the pet gets its shots and regular visits to the vet. This way you can prevent any problem BEFORE it starts and before it's too late.

* Spend time with your pet. There's no point getting one if you're going to give it no more love than the road. If you don't have the time, don't get a pet. But if you're willing to sacrifice and be responsible for something so dependent on you, you'll be amply rewarded.

Take time out and you'll find an abandoned pet can call your house its home.
