Two weeks before the major event there was a gathering of those close to Nelson to send him off into the great unknown.
The day was picture perfect. The first half of the day took place at the Buffalo Grove Park District Golf Course. After the first 18 holes we all wet our whistle at the bar before moving on to the second part of the day.
We moved the festivities on to the the Golf Center of Desplaines, a golfing facility built by a Japanese invest group modelled on the ones in Japan. Besides having a three-tier practice range, it has a wonderful Par 3 golf course.
And the group played past the sunset. Whistles only got wetter and it was the mosquitos that finally chased us off as we played under the lights. Then we moved the gathering into the private dining room.
At the end of the evening Nelson was presented with his cake, with was topped by a scantily clad Barbie doll (courtesy of the restaurant). This day was only topped by the wedding two weeks later.
