Three Precepts on Computer Use
Thou shalt not use a computer to steal, Thou shalt not use or copy software for which you have not paid and Thou shalt not bear false witness. I choose these three commandments for it has a meaning and has a great application personally on me and every users of chat services in the internet and the like that offer such services.
Kant's theory good will is a good application of my experience of pirating CD's that I am borrowing in video city. I hope that copyright laws of the video CD's won't spark to sue me in the court for pirating their original copy. I have no intention of selling it but I just wanted to have a personal copy. Nonetheless it is bad will. That I felt guilty of copying it.
Another occasion, of which I can apply the theory is when I was involve in a scam in a chat site that I happen to give the cell number of the person I am very much angry with because she called me a cheap monkey. I was so mad that I made him a whore not knowing that she have a boyfriend in our office that the lady threatened her boyfriend that if I wont say an apology, she would overthrow us or we sill suffer the consequences of my doing spreading that she is a whore. But as they say that regrets don't come first before you realize that you have done hurt. I felt sorry for myself but things are passed and done that the event solved its problem in its own by leaving it alone.. Until now I feel the effects of what I have done to my fellow officemate. This is a manifestation that everything in excess is bad will according to Kant's theory. |
