Freewheel’n
August 2004
The Tour de France seems to have turned into the Tour de
Armstrong. Not that this is bad…just
wonder if this focuses too much on a single rider. Listening to the commentators, there is a feeling Lance has
already won the tour! This is a shame,
as a victory will be diminished. If
another should win, this could be viewed as stealing the victory from
Armstrong. As this is being released,
Armstrong is but seconds out of first place.
Regardless, our sport has never received such recognition.
Now…RePete has again put himself in the spotlight! This time on the job. Began bragging about past exploits and in
particular the MS 150. The president of
the company is an accomplished ironman participant. No problem…ol’ RePete will never do any ironmen competitions and
doubted that the president of my company would be out on any rides that I
do. Ah…fate does deal out
surprises. The company is a sponsor of
the Tour de Shore. Another charity
ride. I have been invited to volunteer
and do this 65 mile event. Difficult to
decline this invitation. I can see the
challenge…RePete vs. the ironman!!!
More on this next month.
The Art Schalick/Bridgeton Zoo ride is approaching. I am pleased that the club approved my
suggestion to rename one of our rides to commemorate Art. Not sure if anything will be done for Bill
O’Brien. Would be nice as he was a
former president of the club as well as being involved throughout many
years. Now here is another
suggestion…name the road clean-up after Bill.
Maybe we can even have the state provide a road marker.
RePete is scheduled to teach on Saturday beginning with
the fall semester. This will require
that I end my tours early. Seems like
yesterday that the Peach Blossom was being planned. Take a look at the ride section of this newsletter for the Four
Lakes tour. If you were waiting for
the’right’ ride…well, after this tour you’ll need to wait for the next year’s
Peach Blossom!
Finally…I really must thank the club for celebrating my
birthday. It is not often the club does
this in such grand style. But this
year, not only will many of the members get together, but they have invited
many others to attend. Yes…I definitely
plan to be at Centerton High School on August 14.
