Stricken Ship Returns To Port…Many Injured!

RePete & Mrs. Sailed On Vessel…

RePete and the Mrs celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with a cruise to the Caribbean.  We selected Princess Lines and sailed on the Crown Princess…yes, this is the same ship that encountered problems at sea.  Fortunately for us, we had the voyage immediately before this faithful trip.  We had never taken a cruise.  Our early going was in true RePete style as reported last month.  We went to apply for our Passports using the birth certificates with the raised seal from our birth county, that being Hudson…well, the Federal Government is no long recognizing those certificates!!!!  No passports would be issued.  Please go to July Freewheel’n for additional information on our pre-trip misadventures.  For more details concerning on the birth certificate mess, go to:

As for our cruise…we spent 9 days hitting 3 Caribbean islands.  This started out on July 2nd with the itinerary listing 4 island stops.  Somehow…refueling this ship became a problem.  The ‘official’ story was that the fuel was delivered late and was not the proper grade.  Rather then leaving Brooklyn at 6:00, we finally sailed around 1 am.  Some 7 hours late without a full tank!!!  So…we sailed directly for Puerto Rico, where additional fuel would be obtained.  Not sure what would have happened if we ran out of gas…a ship simply can’t call for road service!  There were many other oddities about our cruise…click here for these. RePete made a desperate attempt to cycle in Bermuda.  Emailed the coordinator of a bicycle race held in Hamilton and waited for a reply.  Well, the reply came two days into our cruise.  I never thought of checking my email from the ship…so there it sat.  Did not read until retuning home!!!

Looking ahead…we have the Tour de France is currently in progress.  This year is strange not having Lance in the race.  Here are two links that will help with staying on top of this great event.
