Freewheel’'n
Here we are one month
into our cycling year and RePete has been busy. My ride schedule
is complete and is available at:
http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Arena/6870
Additionally, information has been received on the Seniors
Bicycle Race as well as the M.S. 150. Then there is a request for
details concerning camping tours...particularly the mini-CAM.
Please contact me with any details you have about this tour.
Say...did you know that RePete did the New York Race Across the
State? Well, this was from 7/22 - 7/31/94. I volunteered to crew
and that allowed me to ride approximately half the total
distance. Dormitory type accommodations were provided at the end
of each day. This is as close to a camping tour RePete has ever
ridden.
For your advance planning, there is a special tour to Smithville
being scheduled in August. Expect the total miles to around 65
and may have pick-up points for a shorter route. Further details
will follow.
Have you heard that Governor Whitman released grants for bike
paths that total $7.3 million! Local towns to receive some of this money are Burlington Township, Medford, Lindenwold, Camden City,Gloucester Township, Clayton and Monroe. We may believe this is great news but not all agree. While the Economic Development Commission is Monroe stated that, “It’s going to be
terrific...a quality of life issue.” Others in the same town
believe these funds could be spent on other issues, such as the
library. Here you already hear, “There haven’t been
construction funds for libraries for longer than I can remember.”
Wheelmen...we need to take an active role to help these towns
with their projects and with any negative public opinion. RePete
will discuss this with our Board of Directors. With their
approval, my goal will be to organize a committee. We then can
contact these town to volunteer our assistance and suggestions.
Join me at the February meeting or contact me if you wish to
help, email me at repete@snip.net or call me at (609) 728-2595.
Safe Cycling,
RePete
